In this lesson I demonstrate rudiments applied to the drum set. The solo is comprised of nine standard rudiments, a couple of 4-over-3 polyrhythms, and some other fun stuff. I have gotten a lot of mileage out of this exercise because these rudiments and variations work nicely in a hard rock context – I find a lot of inspiration for groove and fill ideas in here.
Rudiment solo with foot ostinato at 100 bpm:
Rudiment solo with metronome accompaniment at 80 bpm
– no foot ostinato:
Use your creativity and explore different voicings, stickings, tempos and combinations of the individual rudiments…you’ll be surprised at the new ideas that will emerge in your playing!
